We have moved to Shopify! Black Friday History

We all know Black Friday as the day when all the stores open early, and crowds of consumers rush in to buy all the TVs and toys they can get as gifts. But did you know that historically, this day wasn’t always the start of the Christmas shopping season? Back in 1869, the term was originally used to describe a giant stock market crash. The meaning we know and love today only came about in the 1950s, in Philadelphia, when police used it to describe the heavy flow of shoplifters who came about due to tourists flooding the city for the big football game.
Over the years, shops have embraced Black Friday and now give out deals to entice shoppers to buy at their stores. Some have opened as early as Thanksgiving morning to give customers a full two days to shop. But over the recent years, some stores like REI have stayed closed and promoted using the day for family time and meeting up with friends, not blind consumerism.
However, many people expect sellers to make offers on Black Friday. As this event actually has a rather festive feeling, we would like to support our customers and join the flow of unfair benefits)))
