We all know, contemporary fashion is not sustainable.

What’s perhaps most shocking, is how far-reaching the industry’s impact is. It affects four major areas: waste, water, toxic chemicals and energy.

Currently, tons of cheap clothes are being produced in the world to meet the demand for hot new styles. All these items very quickly get to stores, quickly lose their good looks and are thrown away...

For example in the US, each person throws away roughly 80 lbs of clothing each year.
In North America, 85% of textile waste ends up in landfills, which equates to about 25 billion tons of clothes in the trash. Only 1% of clothes thrown away is recycled.

Publications of environmental studies make people think about the future of the earth in general. And the concept of sustainable fashion is gaining popularity in the world.

Daily Mail: Anna Wintour has spoken out against fast fashion and urged men and women to pass buy sustainable pieces that they can pass onto their sons and daughters. Vogue's British-American Editor-in-Chief, who turned 70 this month, encouraged fashion lovers to value their clothes and wear them more often. Speaking to Reuters about sustainability in fashion, she said: 'I think for all of us it means attention more on craft, on creativity, and less on the idea of clothes that are instantly disposable, things that you will throw away just after one reading'.
