We have moved to Shopify!

We've got exciting news!  Our new MC2patterns store built on the Shopify e-commerce platform is now alive!

At this moment, it has the following web address: https://shopify.mc2patterns.com.  But in a day or two, the main domain mc2patterns.com will point straight to the new store.

Update: The domain has already been updated.  The new store is now here: https://mc2patterns.com.  If your browser still opens this old store under the latter URL, please clear browser cookies and cache.

This old store will remain available until we move all the content from here to the new store (i.e., for a few months or even more – it looks like we have tons of content here collected for years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).  This old store will work in the "catalog mode," i.e., with no shopping capabilities, and its web address will be https://host.mc2patterns.com.

Here is some background of why we had to move.

Our e-commerce software platform support has come to an end in recent years.  Developers supporting and maintaining that software platform have created a new version of it, so we have analyzed what it will take for us to upgrade our store to that new version.  After spending quite a bit of time figuring out how things could be done, we have come to a conclusion that we would have to redesign and rebuild the whole store from scratch on the new version of the platform, and, frankly, we did not have so many resources to do that big work.

With that conclusion, we have decided to move to a new platform where we could move our store more easily.  We have done the research and found that the Shopify e-commerce platform provides the best opportunities to make a move.

That's where it started two months back, and now the new store has been opened.

Of course, there are both ups and downs with the new platform, as with any new platform.

The ups include better software maintenance, better store performance, better security support, and keeping on top of the latest e-commerce features.

There are also a couple of downsides, though.

One of them is that not all content could be moved easily to the new store, so we will continue that work while the new store is already alive.  We have already moved all products, customer data, and orders, and we still have to move blog posts and customer photos.

Another downside is that since the new platform holds customer passwords differently from the old one, no passwords could have been moved, and all customers will have to re-create their accounts on the new platform.  We will send email communications to all customers with steps to do.

As we already mentioned above, all the order data has been transferred, so all purchases you have made in this store remain valid in the new one.
